Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita Releases Results of COVID-19 Analysis

On March 24, 2024, four years after Governor Holcomb mandated six foot distancing and lockdowns, and schools moved to remote learning due to the COVID-19 virus, Attorney General Todd Rokita unveiled a 28 page report analyzing COVID-19 data from the Indiana Department of Health.

This report aims to educate the public about the state’s fundamental failures at the time to meet the challenges of a global pandemic with the best possible responsive action. But more importantly, this is not about who is right. It’s not about just casting blame. It is about accountability but it’s also about, and most importantly, not letting this happen again,” Rokita said.

Here are some of the findings of the analysis:

  • COVID-19 deaths were overreported by 10.9% in 2020, 7% in 2021 and 12.5% in 2022 (example: a person gets in a serious auto accident and is hospitalized; a swab is done and comes back positive for COVID but the person dies from the injuries sustained in the accident – that is counted as a COVID-19 death)
  • Inflated positivity numbers (one person who tested positive five times in a row counted as five separate cases; using questionable PCR tests to determine positivity)
  • Detrimental Lockdowns (Johns Hopkins University found that lockdowns only reduced COVID mortality by .02%)
  • Harms to Hoosiers’ mental and physical well-being
  • Devastating impact on student learning

Rokita suggested that a portion of the $225 million allocated to public health in 2023 should be used to fund the recommendations in the report, which include an independent review of the data used to create COVID mitigation policies, the efficacies of those policies in reducing deaths, and a third-party audit of medical records to determine if the cause of death was correctly attributed to COVID-19.
