Did An Indiana Zoo Worker Catch COVID From A Lion?

A Medscape article describes how a male African lion at a "mid-size, Association of Zoos and Aquariums–accredited zoo in Indiana," probably acquired COVID-19 from a fully vaccinated employee, then the lion spread it to other employees. COVID-19 is considered zoonotic because of natural infections observed in a range of mammalian species, which includes humans and lions.

In interviewing zoo employees and doing both reverse and forward contact tracing, researchers determined that the lion’s source of infection was likely a fully vaccinated, asymptomatic employee. The lion had physical limitations which required it to be hand-fed. Forward contact tracing of zoo employees who fed the animal revealed a probable lion-to-human transmission.

What you need to know:
The zoo employees were fully vaccinated and the lion was vaccinated. Everybody still got COVID.
