Indiana Joins Meta Lawsuit

A 233-page complaint was filed by 40+ states accusing Meta of knowingly and deliberately misleading the public about the substantial dangers of its Social Media Platforms. Indiana was one of them.

The lawsuit accuses Meta of engaging in deceptive and unlawful conduct that violates the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA) and state consumer protection laws. The complaint states that Meta harvested data from children under the age of 13 without the parent’s permission and designed the platforms to be manipulative and addicting, causing children to develop low self-esteem.

According to the Indiana Capital Chronicle, Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita had this to say regarding the lawsuit: "Our children are our most precious God-given gift, as they are our future generation. This is just the next step in our endless fight to protect our youth from harmful, toxic platforms."

The Indiana Chapter of Children’s Health Defense will continue to follow this lawsuit.
